FreeGoldPoker.com
In recent months, the last thing most people would expect to hear is that a new online poker room is opening for US players. But Jamie Gold is now offering a free poker site that claims to be regularly giving away money and prizes. It seems to be a mix between a free poker site that offers no cash prizes and subscription sites which are for the most part illegal in the US. I am interested in seeing how this works when everything is up and running.
More Sites Leaving the US
Part of the Cake Poker Network, Poker Pros Network is the latest poker room to end its services to the United States. All players who have been signed up prior to August 31st will still be able to play as normal, but at the end of the month they will terminate all new signups from American based players. The reason for leaving was simple, their operations simply did not comply with current US laws and avoiding punishment for this long was good enough and they did not want to press their luck any further.
Full Tilt Still Frustrating Most
Instead of the good news we had all been expecting to hear spawn from the latest Full Tilt investors development, it seems like the same old story. Even though it is more than likely that a majority of former Full Tilt players have lost their money for good with no shot of getting it back, any positive news coming from Full Tilt would be nice. There is a possibility of new investors on the horizon, but we will take that news with a grain of salt.

Poker Pros Network Leaving the US
August 27th, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Poker Pros Network poker room announced yesterday that it would be leaving the Cake Poker Network as well as the US in general in order to avoid any legal trouble here. In their press release they also announced that their current domain, PokerProsNetwork.com, would be changed to PokerProsNetwork.eu. As of August 31st the site will no longer be accepting sign-ups from US based players, but any and all existing players are able to stay on the site.
The whole press release reads as follows:
“We here at PPN are dedicated to improving our software, creating a safe environment for players to compete, and encouraging our pros to be available to customers at all stake levels,” said owner Chuck Kidd. “It’s been a lot of work, but what we’re introducing later this year should turn the online poker industry on its head.”
Poker Pros Network is a relatively new site, having been created just a little while before Black Friday.

Cake Poker For A Good Cause
July 22nd, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Red Panda Poker
Cake Poker is an ever expanding site, and since it is one of the few options left for American players, it is also growing in popularity as well. If 75 poker rooms weren’t enough, Cake Poker announced that it would be teaming up with Red Panda Poker, their newest partner. The site has added a boatload of different partner sites, but none of them are quite like this one. Red Panda Poker is particularly interesting because it, as a site, is dedicated to helping save the endangered Red Panda. Most people do not even know that the Red Panda exists, let alone that it is endangered. This is because almost all types of pandas are figuratively and literally overshadowed by the giant panda.
There are plenty of…interesting sites out there, but this one is like no other. And quite frankly, I think it will be a hit. Because by playing the game we love, we are also able to help an endangered species that is near and dear to so many people’s hearts, especially in Asia.
The Red Panda website says:
For every hand of poker played on our site, we make a donation to protect the red panda, which is in serious danger of becoming extinct.
The red panda is a rare and beautiful animal that is regarded as a symbol of good luck in parts of Asia. The species is often referred to as the “lesser panda” in deference to the better-known giant panda.
Red pandas live only in temperate forests in the foothills of the Himalayas. Few people outside its native habitat have even heard of the red panda, let alone seen one.
We work with The Red Panda Network, which is committed to the conservation of wild red pandas and their habitat through the education and empowerment of local communities.
Other popular poker rooms on the Cake Poker Network include the eponymous Cake Poker as well as Unabomber Poker.

Victory Poker Closes and Teams Up With Cake Poker
June 3rd, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Shutdown
Victory Poker’s online poker room will no longer be online and offering games. Instead, they decided to become an affiliate with Cake Poker. The CEO Dan Fleyshman of Victory Poker sent out an email that explained that anyone who signed up before June 1st will have the entirety of their accounts transferred to Cake Poker. This includes their bankroll, gold cards, gold chips, and tournament tickets. Via his Facebook, Fleyshman went on to explain that, “the brand will continue doing strategy, news, and videos as an affiliate site.” He went on to say, “I will be focusing much more on my upcoming charity, consulting other companies, and helping with Victory marketing.”
This is more disappointing news that is left in the wake of “Black Friday”, which happened almost two months ago. But Victory Poker has been flying under the radar more than others mostly because they have only been around for about one year. Victory Poker started out on the Everleaf Network but saw that Cake Poker may offer a bit more of an advantage in the grand scheme of things. And as news of the indictments spread, Fleyshman decided it would be best to take US players off of the site and deny future US players any access to the site. But instead of leaving his players out to dry like a few other sites, he decided to transfer them to Cake Poker so that they will be able to play normally.
It is nice to see a site think about their players and take action that actually shows results. We thank Victory Poker for not becoming another site that leaves their players out to dry.

Victory Poker Among Sites Leaving the US
April 19th, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Reasoning
Folks around the industry are wondering why one of the up and coming young sites in the business would leave a situation where they have a potential to really get their name out there. This is directly to the events that happened on the day that is now being dubbed, “Black Friday” by almost everyone around poker nowadays. Victory Poker’s CEO Dan Fleyshman was the one who was behind the decision. Victory Poker is part of the Cake Network and they are the ones who let the blocking of American players final.
The reasoning behind the decision made by Victory Poker was put simply on Twitter by Mr. Fleyshman, “2/3 of our player base is international. Don’t want to mess with the US government, they’re angry at the “big 3″ for a reason.” Fear of the US government is a very real fear as the government did not even hesitate to seize some of the biggest domains in the business. There is much further speculation into why Dan Fleyshman did in fact end offering Victory’s service to the US, but it is speculation and nothing more. The reason most people have settled on is that it is just not safe for online poker sites to continue to run in the US in the midst of all this legal trouble.
Fleyshman, ironically enough, resides in the US and still defended his position on denying access to US players. He said that his reasoning lies behind the fact that he is just not ready to deal with agencies like the FBI and Interpol.
Victory Poker Overview
In the past year or so, Victory Poker has been onme of the fastest growing online poker sites around. With their recent success they even signed WSOP bracelet winner Antonio Esfandiari. Victory Poker was also able to sign some notable models such as England’s Victoria Moore.
Finding a place to call home has been kind of an issue for Victory though. When Victory Poker was first put together around February of 2010 they were part of the EverLeaf Network. But in this past September, Fleyshman organized a deal that would make Victory Poker become part of the Cake Poker Network. The irony in this whole situation is that the Cake Network and Cake Poker specifically is still offering their services to those players in the US. Just like many more stories we hope to be hearing more on this matter in the coming days.

Week In Review
April 18th, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Ryan Bennett and Francois Piette who were a key part in the creation of Cake Poker are suing the company, feeling that they were unfairly compensated for their work. The two formed a company called Legacy Entertainment and were the brains behind a project called the Legacy Project. The two men eventually met and discussed with a man named Nicholaus Mellios who is a defendant in the upcoming case. After months of discussion Piette and Bennett unveiled Legacy Project to Mellios and Yummy Interactive was granted 80% ownership of the newly formed company called LegacyPoker.com.
Legacy Entertainment (Bennett and Piette) were granted the remaining 20%. After much hard work and insight into the new project, Mellios eventually kicked the two from his team and ceased conversation. Some dividends were given to the Legacy Entertainment owners but they feel it is not anywhere near enough especially because Cake Poker is still using their original idea. This case is really beginning to look like Piette and Bennett will receive millions of dollars from Cake Poker as compensation.
Government Seizing
Disputably the biggest and most shocking news of the week has been the fact that the US Government has seized the domain names belonging to PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, UB.com, and Absolute Poker. According to the government, the founders of Absolute Poker and Full Tilt are being charged with things infractions such as bank fraud, money laundering, and multiple illegal gambling offenses. Now when you attempt to surf to one of these sites there is a message that appears and informs you of the illegality of online gambling. It also states the penalties for those caught participating in or operating any online gambling entities. These government seizures have left a lot of poker players in the US wondering what their next move is going to be.
Regulated Online Poker in DC
Not everything is bad for online poker in the US this week. For folks in the District of Columbia a bill that was under a period of time where objections could be passed, passed without any objections. Because of that the District of Columbia is the first jurisdiction in the US to offer legally regulated online poker. Of course you can only play online poker within the jurisdiction and at first most places that will offer online services are going to be places like bars and hotels. With time it is expected that the new software that is being provided by Intralot will start a regulated system like no one has ever seen before. With the passing of the bill in DC, it is hoped that other places in the country also will pass similar bills.
Looking Forward
In the week ahead, American poker players have a lot to be looking forward to and a lot to be aprehensive about. With all of the problems surfacing about online poker in the US this week, poker players all over the country are hoping for some better news this week. A lot of sites are changing their domain names and changing the way American players can handle their funds and even play poker on the site. Most sites are simply turning away from the US market as all the trouble is simply not worth it for them. Others may look to fight the government. Expect many more headlines coming from this general arena as well as a few new ongoing promotions to talk about in the week ahead.

Cake Poker Being Sued in Canada
April 12th, 2011 by Kyle Silverberg
Unfair Compensation
This lawsuit, which is being handled by Canadian Supreme Court, stems from 2 of the “brains” behind Cake Poker‘s creation not being fairly compensated for their work on the site. The two men who are fronting this lawsuit are Ryan Bennett and Francois Piette and among the long list of complaints are accusations of breach of contract, fraudulant and negligent misrepresentation, and conspiracy. The agreement, over which the two men are suing, was first established all the way back in 2004.
PokerScout.com reports that Bennet and Piette formed a company which was called Legacy Entertainment. The plan that Bennet and Piette put together was affectionally called the “Legacy Project.” According to the two men “Legacy Project” was supposed to form an online poker operation that would change the online poker industry. After some time developing the site, Bennet met Nicholaus Mellios who is a defendant in the upcoming lawsuit. Mellios who is the director of Cake Poker, Yummy Interactive, and Yummy Interactive Canada, begun corresponding with the two men. After several months of discussion, Piette and Bennett unveiled the Legacy Project to Mellios and two other men, Christopher Ruck and Douglas Freese. These two other gentlemen are also listed as defendants. After some time the disputed deal was made and Yummy Interactive was granted 80% in the newly formed company that would be called LegacyPoker.com. Legacy Entertainment (Piette and Bennet) would be granted the remaining 20%.
Confliction
One of the numerous complaints by Bennet and Piette are that they had to teach the entirety of Yummy Interactive staff everything about Online Poker and Poker in general; down to the last minute detail. By November of 2004 it was agreed upon that LegacyPoker would become an offshore business because British Columbia law prohibited businesses from operating an online poker site. According to Bennet and Piette the plans went awry shortly after the November agreement. By the time March 2005 came around, Mellios is being accused of allegedly kicking Bennett from the team of creators. A year after Bennett was kicked from the team, Piette faced the same fate.
By mid-2006 Cake Poker was up and running. According to Piette and Bennett some dividends were received, but the amount allegedly does not come close to the 20% that was agreed upon. Bennett and Piette also allege that Legacy Project is very much a part of Cake Poker’s current processes and they should be getting compensation to this day. It could be up to 7 weeks until any action is actually taken on the claim. If the defendants fail to respond after 7 weeks, the court is allowed to make a judgement.
Cake Poker Today
Since Cake Poker was introduced in 2006 it has evolved into one of the biggest online poker operation around. If the Canadian Supreme Court rules in favor of Bennett and Piette, the two could potentially receive millions upon millions of dollars in compensation.
